Get Together 1941 - Side Lights

by Gen Grant

Wonderful weather characterized the Week of Magic at Colon... The Abbott Annex, part of the Skippy LaMore tent hoisted in front of the plant, served the "all-nighters" for their sessions with comfortable seats and plenty of light for card tricks, etc.., . Buss Walsh enjoyed the Get-Together so much that he came back the Tuesday after the affair was closed to browse around further and stock up for winter shows. Incidentally, his Magic Golf act was one of the high spots of Saturday's public show . . . One of the Colon restaurants featured a "Mel Special" sandwich during Magic Week, and Doc Daley ordered one. When it arrived, according to Charlie Larson, it was two pieces of whole wheat toast with a mustard-smeared short card in between . . . As in his custom, Jim Miller of Grand Rapids again presented Percy and Recil each a box of strawberries at Get-Together time . . . Hi Gaddis of Plainview, Texas, got lost in Colon! Maybe he was dizzy from viewing so much Magic equipment at the plant. Anyway, after leaving the plant he wandered around for some time before he found his room . . . Doc Daley bowled 'em over with his card tricks. He was showing a pet one to Bob Anderson and Bert Allerton, both seated on one of the canvas seats under the tent. When he finished, Doc sat down, the seat collapsed and they all were in the aisle.
