Sadness creeps into this column too often, these days. Charles Colville, an early member of Canadian magic groups, passed away suddenly in August. Deepest sympathy has been extended to his widow and family. The sadness actually crept into the Abbott meet in Colon, when we attended the funeral of Christine Floeckher, the seventeen year old grand-daughter of Jack and Anne Gwynne. A truly sad occasion for all of us who had known her from very early childhood. To parents Norm and Beth and sister Laura, our deepest sympathy.

Many regulars at the annual Colon meet know Ernie Covell, the tall ex-R.C.M.P, the fellow with the British voice. He attended, as usual, but had a foot problem which made getting around a bit difficult. When he returned home he went into the hospital and wound up undergoing extensive surgery and, finally, the amputation of several toes. He is now at home and I am happy to report he seems to be doing fine.

Bruce Walstad, 2718 Atlantic St., Franklin Park, IL. 60131, is an investigator with the police department. His specialty is reporting on con games, scams and crooked gambling games. He has done a thorough study of the field. Having talked with him and having seen the detailed coverage of material he uses in his lengthy lectures to police departments, I can assure you he certainly knows the subject. However, he is interested in learning all he can about this field. If you have specific knowledge and information along this line, he would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

LOOKING OVER THE NEW TRICKS, BOOKS ' N THINGS: I seldom, if ever, review things I purchase myself. When an item is submitted for review, I suspect the person sending it expects my comments to be favorable. I always try to be honest and if something seems overstated, over-priced or lifted from another work, I always state the facts.
