sharply with the left hand, partly turning his back to audience, right hand grasping the ribbon and immediately magician moves away from cabinet.
Naturally, the assistant on the other side of cabinet is holding the ribbon in more or less bunched up loops, and he moves away from cabinet at the same time as magician does, therefore entirely masking moves.
A girl from the audience may be used without even a rehearsal. Just back her into the cabinet carefully, and tell her to keep her eyes front and her arms stretched outwards, and to follow your instructions.
Girl stands inside cabinet and with door open, an unprepared ribbon is threaded in front of girl. Ends of ribbon held by spectators or assistants. Door is closed and ribbon pulled back and forth, and at magi's command, girl walks out of cabinet, leaving the ribbon still threaded through cabinet. A girl from the audience may be used, without in any way knowing how she passes through the ribbon.
PREPARATION: Required will be a length of strong black thread with a loop on one end. Fasten the loop end of the thread to wax around grommet hole. Take the thread to back of cabinet and fasten to wax in corner, then carry thread across back of cabinet and fasten to wax in that corner. Then carry the thread along this side of cabinet, out through grommet hole and attach end of thread to wax on the outside of cabinet.

Thread ribbon through cabinet, see-sawing same back and forth, allowing audience to see clearly the position of the ribbon and the girl. The magician should be on the door side of the cabinet, and on the last pull through of the ribbon, he allows his end to come within two or three inches of the hole. (End of ribbon being held in left hand.) In the action of closing the door, magician gets possession of the thread and pulls
When you instruct her to walk from the cabinet, tell her to do this slowly. One step will bring her up against the door. If she pauses for a second, her pressure against the door will allow door to open easily. She then continues walking out.
