The winner of the Abbott talent contest will open the Saturday Matinee!
Talent Contest Winner
Remember, winning Abbott's Talent Contest can open doors! At the October 1977 talent contest the Third Place winner was Mac King! The Second Place winner was Jeff Hobson! And the First Place winner was Lance Burton! Participation in the talent contest helped to open the doors at three Las Vegas theaters for these talented performers!

David & Dania
In 2001, a producer from ABC’s Good Morning America saw David & Dania at The Big Apple Circus, which led to them being booked on the nationwide morning show. The show originated from the network’s New York City studios shortly after 9/11. Diane Sawyer gushed over the act and Charlie Gibson added the most common male response, "Would you please teach my wife to do that so she can get ready for a dinner party, fast!" This show was the debut of Dania’s new red, white, and blue, "flag" gown used for their finale. It was the perfect way to capture the strong feeling of patriotism that was needed in those dark days after 9/11. They were requested to present their act three times before former president of the United States George Bush at his home in Kennebunkport, Maine. They have done television appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, America's Got Talent, Ellen DeGeneres Show, Sally Jessie Raphael Show, and the Steve Harvey Show. David and Dania also have emerged as official halftime entertain-ment for the National Basketball Association.

Ardan James
What would you have if you combined the hilarious expressions of Mr. Bean with the creativity of Buster Keaton, the agileness of Dick Van Dyke, the spontaneity of Robin Williams, the gentleness of Red Skelton and the wonder of Houdini and rolled them all up in one? Ardan James - The Animated Illusionist. Mr. James started as a ventriloquist but found that neither he nor the dummy were verbally funny...so he taught himself pantomime. While completing his degree in the media arts and a minor in education, he worked in a magic store. It was a few years later that he put together his favorite areas of each of the arts, and with audience participation, developed his award-winning act. Some of these awards include the Steffen Comedy Magic Award, S.A.M. Magical Excellence Award, Milbourne Christopher Award, Multiple 1st place S.A.M. Awards, and the World Magic Festival Winner in China. Ardan has opened for many Hollywood performers including Gary Shandling, Howie Mandel, and Ray Romano.

Richard Turner
A couple summers ago, Greg and I were on the road with a dealer booth. At this particular convention, Richard Turner was performing a one man show each night. I didn't know anything about him, but was curious. I arrived late so I did not hear any introductions or background. I sat down and watched as a man demonstrated things with cards that did not seem possible, even to a room full of magicians! For ten minutes different cheating techniques were shown- as well as invisible things can be shown, and my mind was melting... but then... I had a sudden awestruck realization- the man I was watching, the man that was fooling my eyes impossibly, could not see a thing that he was doing! Richard Turner is blind! At that point I was having a religious experience. Imagine yourself at a Ray Charles concert and Ray brings someone onstage, then explains that at any point an audience member can say stop, then Ray will lift his hands and the person on stage can rearrange the keys to their desire. Then someone else can say go and Ray will immediately pick up the song from where he left off. This was happening, except with playing cards rather than piano keys. To this day I am stunned by what I witnessed. I am so happy that I will have a chance to see him again and so will you, in Colon at the 80th Abbott's Magic Get Together August 2-5, 2017!
